Kate Murtagh is the Chair of The IDAC Foundation Board of Directors and previously the Chair of The IDiF, Inc. Board of Directors. She is the Managing Director and Chief Compliance Officer at Harvard Management Company (HMC) and is responsible for legal compliance relating to HMC’s investment activities of the $50.7 billion endowment.
Ms. Murtagh also serves as Managing Director of Sustainable Investing, overseeing the design and implementation of HMC’s sustainable investing program across all asset classes. She developed HMC’s first sustainable investing policy and worked closely with Harvard University in its decision to become the first US endowment signatory to the United Nations-supported Principles for Responsible Investment and its subsequent pledge to make the endowment portfolio net zero of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Prior to joining HMC, Ms. Murtagh was a partner at Goodwin Procter LLP, a global law firm based in Boston. She earned a BS in management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a JD from Cornell Law School, where she served as managing editor of the Cornell Law Review. Ms. Murtagh is a trustee at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, a member of the President’s Council of Cornell Women, and an emeritus board member of the Center for Women & Enterprise.
